Every year DME participates in the American Heart Association Sunset Heart Walk. Determined to beat last year's record donation of $13,353, DME put the creativity normally reserved for our clients relationship marketing to work devising ancillary ways to generate donations for the cause.

In addition to the walker sponsorships for the Heart Walk itself, this year DME put together a series of raffles, bake sales and car washes to earn a combined $16,700 for the American Heart Association, ranking DME as the 3rd highest event fundraiser in Volusia County.

But the crowning achievement in contribution resourcefulness came on Friday, September 21, when DME employees and family staged a 3 1/2 hour Have-a-Heart Carnival in the DME Warehouse and Basketball Court.

Literally every department on DME's 11-acre Daytona Beach campus assisted in the huge event, which boasted many of the midway games one would expect to see at a State Fair, including booths with ring-tossing, basketball "sharpshooting," family photographs, an improvised "hay ride," and especially well-attended Pie Tossing/Water Balloon Bombing of popular DME managers. One booth even featured dart-throwing at an executive smart enough to have a life-sized cardboard stand-up version substitute in his place.

Dee-jayed music set the tone, and pizza, soft drinks and tables full of corrupting desserts made sure the participants were kept happy and in the mood to make more donations.

The $16,700 donation will help fight the nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers: heart disease and stroke. DME has pledged to make a difference and will continue the efforts next year.
